Trimester 1 Reflection

 Reflection for Trimester 1 - 2021

Make a Difference

This class was focused on social science and religious education. We looked at social issues and related those to things in Jesus' time. In the last part of the module we started an achievement standard, I did mine on emotional walls. If you want to look at it here it is: Emotional Walls AS
The thing I enjoyed and did well in this class was the research aspect of my achievement standard, it was fun to look for information, compare and build my own opinion on the topic. I think I could have done better at writing and composing the essay itself, I could have put in more effort to make it easier to read.

Amazing Spaces

This class was focused on technology and art. We designed our own house and build models out of wood. We also made architectural drawing that we painted by taking inspiration from famous artists. I enjoyed making the drawings because it was fun to use angles and to try make it look as close to reality as possible, here's my best attempt, including the painting:
I think I could have done better at making the model, I did not put enough effort in making it perfect and made impulse decisions that led to a less-than-perfect completion of the model.

Shake it up with Shakespeare

This class was focused on Drama and English. We studied the Shakespearean play Macbeth first and then were given the task to create a lesson of our own to teach to the rest of the class. I partnered with Beatrice Fawcett on the play 'Much ado about Nothing'. I enjoyed teaching the class and helping them learn about the plot of the play. here is the program we made: Much Ado About Nothing
I think I could have put in more effort while preparing for the lesson because I think Beatrice felt I didn't do enough.

Friday Wellbeing

This class was focused on teaching us about important issues and letting us do administral work needed by mentors. I enjoyed learning about bullying and sharing my own opinion and views with others. I didn't enjoy the work we did with goal setting or blog posts, it was boring and I didn't see a lot of use in it.

Drama - Impact Project

This was an impact project focused on drama. I got the role of 'Gen' or 'Genevieve La Difference' a brainy nerd best friends with the main character 'Bobby'. She's seen as bossy by the others because she's passionate about women's rights and feminists, she is ecstatic when she meets Cleopatra for the same reasons. 'Gen' also plays wingman between 'Boppy' and her love interest 'Lochie' even though she doesn't like him very much.

Game of Life - 8/04/2021

 Game Of Life

Positive - I learned about a variety of jobs that would suit me in the future, there is a lot of behind the scenes managing and finance. There is alot of jobs i'm interested in but this event helped me discover what I DIDN'T want to do.

Minus - There wasn't a very good amount of people who were involved in tourism, I didn't see any therapists and there wasn't a lot on business management. I wish that there were more people with a variety of jobs than just a very specialised thing, but you can't have anything.

Interesting - It was interesting to see people genuinely passionate about their jobs and sharing it with others. I hope this event is repeated because it was amazing to see all the jobs.

Resilience - Wellbeing Year 9

Resilience

1. Kindness

kindness
/ˈkʌɪn(d)nəs/
noun
  1. the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate.
"he thanked them for their kindness and support"

A time I have used kindness is when someone was sitting kind off alone at lunch time, I sat next to then and started a conversation. This person is now a close friend to me, they are an actually amazing friend and we still talk often. I could have just ignored them, but I stopped to make someone else's day just a little better. I always like to check in with all my friends to see how their doing and if they have anything exciting going on.

2. Love for Learning

Love of learning is a disposition to seek out new experiences and novel opportunities for learningLove of learning can rescue a person from feelings of boredom and repetition. The most common example of someone that loves learning is a child. For the child, everything is fresh, new, and interesting.

A time I have used my Love for Learning is when every morning no matter what the circumstances I am always at school, ready for learning. I enjoy challenging myself and helping others who are struggling. I display my Love for Learning by making sure to catch up on work, try my best to be on time and asking for help if I need it. Some people may hate school but I'm not one of them, I will always appreciate being able to come here. Thousands of kids my age can only wish to be in my position so I try to be as grateful as possible.

3. Humor

humour
/ˈhjuːmə/
noun
noun: humor

the quality of being amusing or comic, especially as expressed in literature or speech.
  1. "his tales are full of humour"

A time I have used humor is whenever one of my friends is down or just a little put off I use humor to try and brighten their mood. Cracking jokes and teasing my friends (in a loving way lol) is one of my favourite things to pass time. The only reward that I need is a smile or giggle at one of my dumb jokes, though I seem to get a lot of eye rolls and response like "That was so bad" to conceal that they know how great the joke was :))).

Amazing Space Planning

This Trimester I was assigned the task of creating an original tiny house. With no prior experience with architecture I was quick to do some research. These past 6 weeks I have been working on a full plan, though I have not yet created a floorplan, I do know exactly how I want it to look.

First I listed all things I wanted to add into my tiny house and created a mood board. With the help of @SophiaSeaton.

All Planning & Reflections So Far

The teacher later decided to discontinue these planners.

Year 9 - Wellbeing Course

Reflection

This year has only just started and I can already tell it's going to be a long one.

I have a class called 'Make a Difference', where I made a website that I am fairly happy with. It displays all work I have done and shows the progress I have made during class time so far. This is where you can take a look: Make a Difference - My Site

I have another class called 'Amazing Spaces' , where I create original ideas for houses and spaces for the NZ housing crisis. It gives me practice for what I would like to do in the future and gives me time to work on graphics, which I really enjoy.

This is the planning I did for making my tiny house floor plan.

I have a class called 'Shake it up with Shakespeare' where we study Shakespeare's plays and reflect upon them. I made a video where I explained the top 5 of Shakespeare's plays and a little bit about his life. This video turned out pretty good and I'm proud of it. If you would like to watch it, it is called 'Facts about Shakespeare' on Youtube.

In Numeracy I'm working above level so I still challenge myself. Mr Lockwood gave me a book of exercises from the NCEA standard in England. This helps me extend my knowledge and keeps my brain working with harder questions than i'm used to.

In Literacy I have been improving my writing and challenging myself by using more advanced words. Like in the 'Alphabet Challenge' I wrote a story i'm very proud of. It is a story about a young woman who is sick of the same routine of going to work, so she calls in sick and spends the day walking around in rainy London.

For my Impact Project, I am doing the Drama Production. Drama gives me room to express my emotions and relax. I enjoy my character though I wish I had a little more lines. Mr Sparks obviously is very good at his job and I know he will produce an amazing show.
